frequently asked questions

How are class placements determined?

At Believe Dance Academy, class placements are based on skill, technique, experience, and readiness.....not age alone.

Every dancer develops at a different pace, and our goal is to place each student where they will feel confident, challenged, and successful. Remaining in the same level is not a setback, it often provides the opportunity to strengthen technique and build confidence before progressing to the next level.

Why didn't my dancer move up this year?

Progression through our levels is based on mastering the skills taught in each class rather than simply moving up every season.

Sometimes another year, or two,  in a level allows dancers to build a stronger technical foundation, making the transition to the next level much more successful and enjoyable.

Why do younger dancers begin with ballet?

Ballet is the foundation of all dance styles.

Through ballet, dancers develop balance, coordination, strength, flexibility, musicality, and proper technique that carry over into jazz, contemporary, hip hop, tap, and more.

At Believe, we intentionally begin our youngest dancers with ballet so they develop the confidence and technical foundation to thrive as they grow.

My child loves hip hop or jazz. Can they skip ballet?

For our youngest dancers, we believe a strong ballet foundation is the best place to begin.

As dancers grow and develop technically, they'll have opportunities to explore additional styles including jazz/contemporary, hip hop, tap, pointe, and more.

How is tuition calculated?

Tuition is calculated per dancer based on each dancer's total weekly class hours.

Families with multiple dancers automatically receive the applicable sibling discount during registration.

Do you offer sibling discounts?

Yes! Our registration system automatically applies our sibling discount when multiple children are enrolled.

Can my dancer try a class before committing?

Absolutely! We understand that finding the right fit is important. Contact us to schedule a trial class, and we'll help determine the best placement for your dancer.

What if I'm unsure which classes to register for?

We're happy to help!

If you have questions about placements, class recommendations, or scheduling, simply reach out before registering and we'll make sure your dancer is enrolled in the classes that are the best fit.

Can my dancer take more than one style?

Yes!

As dancers get older and build their technical foundation, many choose to participate in multiple styles including ballet, jazz/contemporary, hip hop, tap, pointe, and our performance opportunities.

Does my dancer have to be on the competition team?

Not at all!

Our recreational dancers receive the same high-quality instruction and perform in our annual productions. Competition is simply one option for dancers looking for additional performance opportunities.

When can dancers begin pointe?

Pointe is based on strength, technique, maturity, and physical readiness......not age.

Dancers are evaluated individually before being invited to begin pointe training to ensure they are prepared safely.

My child is older than some dancers in their class. Is that okay?

Absolutely.

Since our classes are based on skill development rather than age, it's common for dancers of different ages to train together. Our priority is placing each dancer where they will continue to grow, gain confidence, and build strong technique.

Why do some dancers stay in the same level for more than one year?

Dance is different from school.

Each level introduces new technical skills that take time to master. Some dancers are ready to move up after one year, while others benefit from an additional year, or two,  of strengthening their technique and confidence before advancing.

Our goal isn't simply to move dancers through the levels—it's to help them become strong, confident, and technically sound dancers.
